Oral and maxillofacial surgery is a unique dental specialty requiring four or more years of surgery and anesthesia training beyond general dentistry.
Oral surgery training focuses primarily on surgery inside the mouth such as the removal of decayed and impacted teeth, placement of dental implants, biopsies and removal of cysts and tumors of the mouth and jaws.
Maxillofacial surgery refers to surgery of the face and jaws. An oral and maxillofacial surgeon (OMS) has been trained to diagnose, treat and surgically correct diseases, injuries and deformities of the jaws, face and related structures as well as being fully trained to administer all types of anesthesia. An OMS resident also trains alongside medical residents in the medical rotations such as head and neck surgery, trauma, cardiology and neurosurgery. Once entering this specialty, oral surgeons do not provide general dentistry services such as cleanings, fillings or dentures.

Dr. Redford has performed thousands of surgeries to include facial reconstruction of deformities and trauma, implants and minor oral surgery such as biopsies, tooth extractions and removal of impacted wisdom teeth. His years of specialty training and many years of experience provide the highest level of surgical expertise.

Dr. Redford has recently limited his practice to oral surgery and in-office procedures. Oral surgeons are specialists who perform only oral surgery procedures which provides the finest, most experienced and skilled care in oral surgery. Dr. Redford holds a conservative approach to oral surgery and believes that conservative care leads to the best surgical results and minimal recovery time.

Dr. Redford graduated from the University of Tennessee and received his DDS degree from the Dental School at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He was accepted into the prestigious Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency at the University of Texas Medical School where he completed a year of internship in anesthesia in addition to his hospital-based oral and maxillofacial surgical residency.

Dr. Redford is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the American Dental Association, the Tennessee Dental Association and the First District Dental Society and maintains certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Our surgical assistants are carefully chosen, trained and experienced professionals. They are registered assistants with many years of dedicated service with Dr. Redford.

We maintain mandatory training and emergency preparedness drills for our surgical team members as well as ongoing team member meeting reviews. All of our surgical staff hold current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and receive annual HIPPA and OSHA training.
